For Black History Month, my students studied Martin Luther King Jr. They studied his famous speeches and quotes and learned about his life. From their research they also discovered an important connection of peace and nonviolence between Mahatma Gandhi and MLK. Through the students' studies, many questions and discussions came about... "What is peace?", "Are all laws ones that should be followed?", "What is civil disobedience",
"How are these men similar and different? ", "What impact do we want to leave in the world? What footprint do we want to make?" Students wrote their thoughts on their own traced footprints. We made a collaborative bulletin board about the men, their marches and my students' ideas.
